31 January 2026 – 25 May 2026
Skovgaard Museum presents a special exhibition exploring stone as a natural phenomenon and an artistic material. With a focus on P.C. Skovgaard (1818–1875), a central figure of the Danish Golden Age, the exhibition examines how stone appears as both motif and meaning in landscape painting.
The exhibition also features works by contemporary artists Trine Søndergaard and Regitze Engelsborg Karlsen, creating a dialogue between historical and contemporary perspectives on nature.
Trine Søndergaard presents photographs of monumental stones hidden in Danish forests—ancient glacial erratics transported from Norway and Sweden during the last Ice Age. Her works highlight stone as an immovable presence and connect geological history with contemporary visual culture.
Regitze Engelsborg Karlsen contributes sculptural and textual works inspired by Møns Klint, exploring stone’s symbolic, poetic, and geological layers through form and language.
Together, the exhibition offers a compelling encounter with stone in art, geology, and cultural history, bridging the Danish Golden Age and contemporary artistic practice.
