Skovgaard Museum presents an exhibition creating a dialogue between Joakim Skovgaard’s monumental frescoes in Viborg Cathedral (1901–1906) and Erik A. Frandsen’s contemporary work with the fresco technique.
Across more than a century, the exhibition connects two artists united by a shared focus on the materiality and slowness of painting and its ability to address existential questions. While Skovgaard created a unified pictorial narrative, Frandsen works with fragments from everyday life, exploring intimacy, loss, longing, faith, and connection.
Through the fresco technique, Frandsen’s works appear as remnants of a larger whole—an artistic and spiritual archaeology reflecting a world marked by change and uncertainty.
