Old-Fashioned Christmas Parlour

This year, Skovgaard Museum invites visitors to experience a very special Christmas parlour inspired by the atmosphere of the nineteenth century.

The museum’s ground floor will be transformed into a creative workshop where children and adults can make traditional Christmas decorations and enjoy a variety of handicrafts inspired by the activities that occupied women’s time in the nineteenth century. The Christmas parlour is inspired by the museum’s current special exhibition, Lifetime: Mature Women in Art, which offers insight into women’s lives and work through the ages.

The traditional Christmas tree, of course, takes pride of place. At the top of the tree sits P.C. Skovgaard’s stork family from 1866, while the fir tree is, as always, decorated with paper cones and Christmas baubles. The Christmas tree can be experienced on the ground floor from Friday, 27 November.

Admission is free for everyone throughout December.
